DEBUT
Premiere: 21/10/2007, Ljubljana Castle
DÉBUT is a reflection on beginning. It looks at theater as a place of remembering – a place where the memory of its ancient origins still co-exit with the present moment of the spectacle. DÉBUT is the point of intersection. A memory unfolds through the actor about the origins of theater and about the body as a passage from here to the netherworld. A hidden path winds through the theater back into the proximity of life and into a sense of unity with it. DÉBUT is a moment of awakening when all becomes what it has always been – its other. DÉBUT itself is a new start.

In her performance “Début – in memory of coming, the dancer and choreographer Mala Kline, deals with an extreme and mystical experience, such traces were already present within her excellent performance “Campo de Fiori” from three years before. …Mala Kline has again proved herself as a good and very original author. (M.Kumerdej, Zdrs na ono stran, DELO)
The audience remained transfixed for several seconds and then applauded frantically to the choreographer and performer Mala Kline… It is one of the most significant highlights of «MIR». (M.Tsimitakis, Emerging underground art of the city, Kathimerini)
Of course this is not her debut, but a performance that combines the nightmarish atmosphere of the movies of David Lynch with the supernatural world of Alice in Wonderland… (L.Barka, Eleftherotypia)
Can one reach a happy end through a setting like the ones of Lynch? This is where Mala Kline wants to take her audience. (M.Markouli, Ta Nea)
The delicate solo by the Slovenian dancer and choreographer Mala Kline… Debut – in memory of coming is a very finely tuned, dedramatized evening between a musician and a diva wearing a white fur coat. To the rhythm of electro beats she liberates herself from the drama of her existence: from the height of the drama – she tumbles to the floor, or more precisely, onto the floor of the performance, where the screen, her voice, body and a few projected sentences begin a lively communication with each other… (M.Affenzeller, Hauchzartes Solo der Slowenin Mala Kline, DerStandard)
The Slovene dancer takes her audience into an abstract (dream-) world, and tells the story of a dreamer, who awakens from her dream… Her own mirror image becomes the bridge into another space and time… Projected onto a screen the movements of a restless dream dancer are transformed into a distorted play of colors, arousing emotions that are gripping in their intensity. (kasch, Eine Traumtanzerin zwischen den Welten, Linz09)
