SONG II
Premiere: 30/1/2020, Španski borci cultural centre, Ljubljana, SI
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—“ (Song of Songs, 1:2)
SONG II is the second part of the eponymous trilogy based on the Song of Songs, one of the greatest mystical texts of Western tradition that itself is a lasting search for a relationship with the other. SONG II is a complementary opposite to the first part of the trilogy. In addition to the first SONG, a minimalist choreography for a female dancer taking place within a drawn spatial diagram and viewed from a distance, the second SONG is a vocal composition by a male performer that requires closeness, immersion and imagination. Both SONGs explore – each through a different medium – how language as a medium can put us in a relationship; with the unnamable, the body, the space, the time, the audience, and it becomes a song. A love song we write with every utterance we make.
The SONG trilogy is a project about the potentials of language, what language can be as a space of encounter, empathy and resonance. The trilogy builds languages – through the body – that need to be felt in order to be understood.
